It’s tempting, at year end, to talk only about the wins — the completions, the refinances, the milestones. But 2025 deserves a more honest look back. It stretched the whole property and finance industry, and it tested us as a business in ways we didn’t always see coming. What we didn’t expect was how much clarity, and genuine growth, would come out of that.
The highs
For all the uncertainty, it was a strong year. We supported more clients than ever through the tricky stuff — complex funding, specialist buy-to-let, bridging, strategic refinancing — and we deepened the lender relationships that so often make the difference between “no” and “here’s how”. But the part that still lands hardest is the human one: watching a client complete on a purchase they’d quietly assumed was out of reach. That moment of relief on handover never gets old, and it’s still the best reason to do this job.
The lows
It wasn’t all smooth, though. The market was unpredictable, lender criteria kept shifting, and valuations came back inconsistent more often than anyone would like. Add a year of political turbulence and a fair few of the hardest moments were simply outside anyone’s control. Behind the scenes, there was also the quieter balancing act every business owner will recognise — the pull between growing and protecting your team’s wellbeing.
What the year taught us
The most useful growth wasn’t dramatic — it was steady and personal. A few things stuck. Expertise gets you in the door, but it’s empathy that builds trust. Clients rarely come to us when things are simple; they come when it’s complex, and that’s precisely where we’re most useful. Good leadership is as much about knowing when to pause as when to push. And you can hold firm standards and still be entirely human about it. This year sharpened us as advisers and grounded us as people.
Into 2026
We head into the new year with a clearer strategy, a steadier mindset and a sharper sense of what we’re here to do — deliver advice that feels personal rather than transactional. We’ll keep building partnerships, widening our expertise, and being the people clients can rely on when their situation is anything but straightforward.
A final thank you
To every client, broker, solicitor, accountant and partner who trusted us this year — thank you. Your goals are our motivation, and your milestones are the whole reason London FS exists. Here’s to 2026: a year of smart growth, bold decisions and new opportunities.
